Chronicle of the process of moving from USA to Mexico

Friday, May 28, 2004

Stan will be on the ground in Merida as of this time next week - Friday, June 4th. After visiting the immigration office to get his FM3 Visa registered he will first look at a few houses currently for sale before shifting to looking for a rental.

The 5 properties that are on the initial "have a look" list are as follows:

1. Beautiful House, Beautiful Garden Centro

2. Cute Home in Centro

3. The Beautiful House of Flowers

4. Purchase with your Credit Card

5. Large Deco Style Home in Centro

Escrow has been opened for the sale of the house here.

At about 5:30 this afternoon we signed off on one of the two offers that was made. Of the offers on the table, we opted for one that did not yield the highest return but looked very solid and which appears to have a higher probability of completing the escrow process successfully. Our fingers are crossed in hope that all goes well.

A lot has happened since my last posting. The house has been on the market for just a few days now. Yesterday was the open house. There are indications that 2 offers are in the works and we will be meeting with Ingrid our realtor tommorrow evening to review them.

I have submitted my notice to Embarcadero Systems where I have been employed for the last 2+ years. My last day on the job will be Friday, June 4th. There is a possibility that I will be able to do some part time work for them in the month or so before departing for Merida and also on an ongoing basis once I get there via DSL connection and possibly an occasional trip back to the states.

If the house does in fact sell very quickly then the timeline looks like we will begin the drive to Mexico on or about July 9th, a bit earlier than previously planned. That would put us in the new home town of Merida sometime around July 17th.
